Sorry, I didn't read all of Brainsofts great tips, so if this is in there, well, excuuuuuuuuuusssssse meeee.

It a link to a screensavers story about hacking the start button. There's a d/l involved and seeing I'm not currently running XP I didn't try it out, but maybe you can do more than just the start button. Let us know if you try it.

You can do that with 2k & 98 as well.. dón't remember where I saw it but a quick jaunt on Google would probably bring it up

I've never seen any reason to risk breaking Windows just to get a cool message on the start button... maybe that's why I want to do it so bad

Never seen any reason for it. I rarely ever access the start button, most of my stuff is accessed through quicklaunch, or by going into the drive and launching it from there.

All the more reason to change it! If you never use it, then all it does is sit there & look.. well, boring. Between the programmable mouse buttons, quicklaunch & Office shortcut bar, I never use it either. So that's going to be my next project.

I saw on another site recently that the edit was relatively straight-forward but that you were in any case restricted to 5 characters.. not the case I guess??

there are actually spaces, if I'd bother to look- "Push Me Baby" is the reality of it & no, there doesn't seem to be a 5 character limit.
