I have a HP cd-writer 8250i and on my computer with XP I am having problems with the instilation of it. I tyried to ignore the warnings and it turns out that direct cd is not compatible do I need to get updated drivers for this writer to be able to use it on this machine and is easy cd creator also usable on it?

One last thing and that is do I need to connect my audio cable to it as it is already connected to my cd-rom and works fine?

it says,
" If your sound board already has the correct audio cable,plug the connector into the Audio Out Opening on the back of the CD-Writer Plus."

also,
" To listen to music through computer speakers, attach an audio cable with an MP-2 connector. You do not need an audio cable to record music. The audio cable is used only for listening to music cd's through your computers sound system. When the CD-Wroter Plus drive records music or data, it uses the data cable, not the audio cable."

forgot to mention I have an internal zip I use at times so am trying to jockey between the use of the two if that makes a difference.BD

on most HP-writers I've seen you have to install the software
before you even hook up the burner, with ezcd.;)
You might have to uninstall the software,
unhook the burner, reinstall the software, then
rehook up the burner.

I've seen this happen several times, and not just with xp.;)

TYried it and recieved this message,

" C:\ progra~\symantec\s32evvt1.dll

an installable virtual device driver failed dll initialazion. Chose "close" to terminate the application.

You got norton AV?

sounds like you got a bad install of norton, and maybe a virus???

I think there is an update to like 5.02 fron 5.0 for ezcd.
You may need that.

I've yet to find a version of DirectCD that actually works with my CDRW under XP. I've found that many versions actually install a few files that cause serious issues with XP. If you have Nero 5.5 or newer, you might want to consider the move to it. EZCD just plain sucks.

The other issue seems to be a Norton issue. Could be the version your using. I know that Norton 2000 has to be patched to work in 2K properly. This may also be the issue with XP. What version of Norton are you running and what program are you using, that is, Norton AV, Norton Utillities, Norton Blows Your Computer Up, etc...

Had Norton 2003 and got rid of it for McAfee so it seems there are some files left behind I have to look for. I have a liteon with the nero which I like better so will use that but will try after I do a search for symantec and delete all of it. Any other ideas?BD

Another thing is that HP has a disk supposedly to use for when you do go to XP but they want $10.65 for it and to me that suks as I would rather be able to download it anyway from the cheap HP people.

Got this from HP and am downloading it and also have gotten all symantec off of my puter as well so maybe this will work.



Please note that Windows XP IDE driver allows the operating system to
detect the HP CD-Writer. The HP CD-Writer drives will function as a
standard CD-ROM drive and will be able to read CDs. However, Windows
XP-compatible CD recording software is needed to allow the drive to
write to CD-R and CD-RW media.

HP CD recording software is available and can be downloaded from the HP
Web site. The cost mentioned on the Web site is for customers who wish
to obtain the software upgrades shipped to them on a CD. Please follow
the instructions given below to download and install the HP CD recording
software.

Download the software

1. You can download the HP RecordNow and DLA software for Windows XP
from the HP Web site at:

2. Read the information on the screen and click Download now.

installed on your system, you must first uninstall it before installing
the downloaded software. Follow the steps below to uninstall the
software:

Note: If you have any of the above software installed, follow the
steps below for each software package.

1. Click Start and Control Panel.
2. Double-click the Add or Remove Programs icon.
3. Click Change or Remove Programs, highlight the software and
click Remove.
4. Click Yes to remove the software and all of its components.
5. Click Yes to All to remove the shared files.
6. Reboot for the changes to take effect.

Install the downloaded software

RecordNow:

1. Open the folder where recordnow_ver35b_enu was saved and
double-click it to launch the HP RecordNow-Installshield Wizard.
2. Follow the prompts on the screen to install the RecordNow
software.
3. Reboot your system before using the software.

DLA:

1. After you have rebooted the system, open the folder where
dla_ver31_enu.exe was saved and double-click it to launch the HP
DLA-Installshield Wizard.
2. Follow the prompts on the screen to install the DLA software.
3. Reboot your system before using the software.

Now on XP everytime I start it up I get a box that states,"

Devices or Applicatios Disabled

'CD Recording Software' will cause windows to become unstable. Windows has prevented these drivers from loading. Click here for more details."

Now when I do click it states thatit could be my easy cd creator which I don't have installed???

That came from the CDR software, most likely, EZCD Creator. I got that same message the first time installed XP and that program. I tried everything including removing those files and I never got rid of that message. Finally just blew it away and started over. Wish I could be of more help here but I never found a solution to that.
