If you install SP1 with a FCK- serial, XP will go into a read-only mode, bad news. If you're using the devil's own and you're making a new key, you have to make sure that you select CORPORATE edition in the keygen, otherwise none of the numbers you end up generating will be valid. I ran the keygen on two machines for many hours, ended up making myself some 80 odd keys that weren't any good in this house. :( Just a heads up for anyone that couldn't figure out why it wasn't working.

Also, I have a much easier way to change the serial# on an already installed system, using the resealing program is a major pain in the ass. I'll get back when I find it.

UPDATE:

haha, that didn't take long at all, I was pretty sure I had saved it right beside the keygen.

follow this tutorial to change cdkey with NO side effects:

start-->run--->regedit.exe

browse to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WPAEvents

modify the key OOBETimer to anything different that what it is.

now start-->run
type %systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a

select MS representative to activate
click change product-key

enter your new cd key generated from the keygen (must be a VALID one, the keygen will tell u if its valid or not).

click update
click remind me later

reboot.

now you can install sp1.

This method worked for me nearly perfectly. If you've used a program called XPAntiSpy3, you'll have to re-enable the WPA services, the very bottom two items in this program. I couldn't get this method to work at first, then I realized that it was because I had the WPA thing completely disabled with XPAntiSpy3.

Other than that I had no problems at all.
