IRC is a type of chat service that allows instant chatting without all the crashing like ICQ does :D

There is a
top_chat.gif
button at the top, just under the ad, that takes you to a place with an integrated, Java-based chat client. It is somewhat unstable, so using an external (separately downloaded) client is recommended, while being less easy to use it may provide a richer experience. If you happen to use an external client any time in the future, the IRC server is irc.enterthegame.com and the channel name is #xibase
