...are getting stupidly low. My sister's laptop crashed and burned on her, and being short on cash, she wanted me to build her a desktop to replace it:

T-bird 850
Asus A7V133
Soundblaster PCI 128
Amplified speakers
keyboard and mouse
128 MB Crucial PC133
52X CD-ROM
20 Gig Fujitsu HD
Floppy
Cheap Sis 8MB Video AGP
56k V.90 PCI Modem
Generic enclosure with Sparkle 300W PS.

Good little net/business machine (which is what she wanted).

Total cost? $500. Unbe-freaking-lievable, considering it would have been double that 8 months ago.

BTW, Crucial has some of the best prices I've seen lately on all RAM, and they've got the free 2nd day air through 9/10.

I'm waiting for my @#$%$#% tax refund to come in this month; gonna max out my lappy with 512mb of ram for like $50. Let's pray there isn't another earthquake to send prices back up again.

Computer prices have been dropping like flies. I hope they stay that way for the next few days, cause I need a new monitor, some more ram, a sound card, and a few other things and I won't get paid until around saturday or so

blah, blah, blah
A SB Live 5.1 card was around $90CND a few weeks ago. Now I can get it for $48.00CND!

A LG GoldStar CED-8120B 12x8x32 CDRW w/ software was $134CND, now $116CND.

I won't even talk about memory! Glad I'm not in that biz.

That's why I'm slowly buying my computer parts to build a new system piece by peice. Memory, mobo & CPU will be the last things I buy.
