This excite crap that got loaded on my puter when I got cable access has taken over IE. How can I get rid of it? I uninstalled the excite browser and the @home assistant and I did strip down the excit toolbar in IE, but I can't get rid of the damn toolbar and it keeps using the excite search engine :mad:

Try doing a windows update to it, selecting IE 5.5 SP2 to download and install

I took that shit right out of the registry.

start/run/regedit/HKEY_ LOCAL_ MACHINE/software...then start looking for all the @home crap and delete it :mad:

i'm scareda regedit :scared:

I recently downloaded IE 6. I did a 'reset web settings' under tools>internet options>programs and it didn't help. you think if I download it again it will 'reset' everything?

Sorry Pad, the Excite@home crap is in your registry. just don't screw with anything that doesn't say @home and it'll be okay.

hey Q you need to change that link for the file tweakfiles.com is nolonger

craaaap...I didn't even check the link, thanks Dj, I'll check around for another one.

hmmm, I think I might have sent it to your work email..I'll just resend it to this one in your profile...should be there in a minute :)

I think this is the file

I found it with this

<!-- Search Google -->
<center>
<FORM method=GET action=http://www.google.com/custom>
<TABLE bgcolor=#FFFFFF cellspacing=0 border=0>
<tr valign=top><td>
<A HREF=http://www.google.com/search>
<IMG SRC=http://www.google.com/logos/Logo_40wht.gif border=0 ALT=Google align=middle></A>
</td>
<td>
<INPUT TYPE=text name=q size=31 maxlength=255 value="">
<INPUT type=submit name=sa VALUE="Google Search">
<INPUT type=hidden name=cof VALUE="BGC:black;AH:center;GL:2;AWFID:e17c9aa22fa33127;">

</td></tr></TABLE>
</FORM>
</center>
<!-- Search Google -->

and I too have heard that the only way to get your normal search back is by editing the registry. I use the Google toolbar and never use that search button anyway.

thanks for the link flav, maybe I can try it this weekend.

right now I am trying to figure out another problem(s). I will try to splain it best I can.

here's my setup.

two computers running win2k pro with nic cards hooked to a 10/100 hub, with a cable modem hooked to the hub as of 10 days ago.

The guy that hooked me up to cable setup my second computer to access the internet as well. Best I could tell he didn't have to do much. Life was good for a few days. I could access the internet on both computers simultaniously untill I did a reboot of my main system. after that, when I tried to access internet on second puter, it said something about restrictions on that computer. then, this saturday when I decided cable rocked, I called bellsouth and discontinued my dial-up service and promptly deleted the bellsouth dial-up connection and removed the dial-up modem. that was all I did...I swear. Now when I reboot my main system I get, 'network path already in use G:' WTF....G is my cdrw..... and, 'path not found H:' (thats the shared c: on second puter). also, now my screen saver freezes occasionally and my norton antivirus liveupdate notification nolonger works :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :cry2:

I'm pretty clueless about networking too pad. My puters aren't even speaking to each other:smash:
However, I do have some advice! I would call up @ home and say what the hell did you people do to my computers? They were perfectly fine till your tech came out...make them come and fix it.

only problem is, they were working fine till i did a reboot and decided to eliminate my dial-up service :confused:

leave out the part about the dialup...ya gotta be able to reboot without losing your settings every time.:eh: ...and it got wacky after you rebooted and before you uninstalled the dial up stuff, right?

Hey Flavio, that reg cleaner is awsome! I just cleaned out 600MB of crap that I though I have removed. 600MB doesn't sound like it's alot but when your HD(like mine) is 2GB, thats amazing.

No, actually it's still amazing to clean out hundreds of megs of stuff when you have a 60 gig hard drive. Especially when you thought you HAD cleaned it out.

For instance, I thought I cleaned out my cache folder, but instead I cleaned out one copy of it. Windows had another two copies of the cache hidden away in a couple of its "really hidden" folders (the ones that you take off the Hidden attribute in Explorer or in DOS and they are still hidden)

So, I cleaned out about 700 megs the first time and another 700 the second time, and ANOTHER 700 in the third time of clearing my internet cache.

I really don't like it when Windows does that. I don't have a lot of hard drive space on my first partition
