Alpha Workstation

I have found a Alpha DEC3000 600 workstation for sale in NZ for $500.00.

Could someone give me an indication of system speed compared to some modern PC's.

This thing has a 19" monitor so it may even be worth buying just to get that.

There appears to be a version of Linux available NetBSD 1.4 (Linux or Unix, I'm not sure?)

Alphas = Ownage.

I may be mistaken on the price, but I would think that is one helluva deal.

Just see if you can test out the system before buying it

btw I don't have an exact equation, but I do know Alphas are a LOT more efficient per clock cycle than any modern processor. I also know that some alphas (I think 450-500mhz alphas) can finish a SETI work unit in about 45 minutes.

Too bad there's no client for them in Genome :/
