A supermarket price war in Ohio has seen the price of petrol dip to 10 cents a gallon.
Supermarket giant Kroger has just opened a new store in Dayton near one of competitor Meijer's stores.
The manager of the Meijer station says more than 1,000 people bought the cheap petrol from her.
"I've never seen people lined up to buy gas like this,'' says Sandra Ralph, 60, of Dayton, who was queuing at Meijer's.
Gerald Harris, 25, and his brother Matt, 19, of Dayton, went to Kroger. "You have to take advantage of it while you can," Matt says. "Gas may never be this cheap again."
Meijer manager Brenda Bauer said: "The longer you wait in line, the cheaper the gas gets. There's a deal there."
