New scanner suggestions?

This pos Umux scanner is having some serious h/w problems; anyone have a suggestion for a replacement?

Your UMAX isn't an Astra 610S, is it? Mine's gone belly-up, too. I suppose having it last from Christmas 1997 until a month or two ago is as good as I can expect from them.

Ive had pretty good luck with the canonscans. ive tossed more umaxs than i care to admit. junk imo.

No, it is an Astra 2000U. I might consider an all-in-1 solution Prof since I also want to replace this pos printer as well (but at least that still works).

My opinion about Umax changed when they wanted to charge for driver updates (thankfully, their European colleagues don't).
