Is Mandrake 8 slow?

I have an Athlon 600 classic. It seems like Mandrake crawls when I try to load browsers and other programs. I have 384 mb of ram. Is it just my computer or does Mandrake take a long time to load programs?

It ran fine with the same amount of memory on my p3-700.

It runs okay, but is sluggish and unresponsive at times particularly if I am loading Mozilla or Netscape.

Were older versions of Mandrake faster when doing the same things?

Mandrake 7 runs a lot faster on my computer than 8 does.

Yea Mandrake 8 seems to be a bit more of a hog compared to older versions. We noticed it when we installed too.
