I didn't know him that well. I worked on his computer a few times. His kids liked to install things on it and generally messed it up pretty good. Chuck was a good guy though. He just got it fixed for them when he couldn't do it himself.
A couple days ago, Chuck Hanners and two fellow firefighters died in the line of duty here in Coos Bay.
The next time you pass by a fire department or see a firefighter in town, say a thanks, even if they can't hear. I never did say thanks to Chuck.
Randy Carpenter's girlfriend of six years, Christine Farmer, got to help pull her boyfriends body out of the fire. I imagine that would be one of the hardest things to do.....
