LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Longtime Los Angeles Dodgers coach Joe Amalfitano was rehired by the team Thursday as senior adviser to baseball operations.
Amalfitano, 67, spent the last three years in the San Francisco Giants organization as special assistant for player development.
Next season will be Amalfitano's 49th in pro baseball, and 16th with the Dodgers. Amalfitano has served in several capacities within the organization from 1983-98, and also coached with the Chicago Cubs (1967-71 and 1978-80), San Francisco (1972-75), San Diego (1976-77) and Cincinnati (1982). Amalfitano managed parts of three seasons for the Cubs from 1979-81, going 66-116.
