A ride through a Ghost Town

I found it interesting that it takes 100 times as much radiation to kill a cockroach as it does a man. The firefighters first on the scene when the reactor blew were zapped quickly, but the levels weren't high enough to kill any roaches in the area.

I believe it, though.

Oops, I misread. The dose of radiation listed to kill a human was over the course of 5 hours, and the amount of radiation the plant was putting out was listed over the course of one hour. So if the plant had a roach problem before, it didn't after. Not that roaches would be very high on the list of worries after a meltdown.

It makes perfect sense though. Cockroaches aren't even close to as complex as us. If they can survive without a head until they starve, what's a few thousand roentgens? Is there some reason cockroaches seem to be so hard to kill except for the splat method?

Ball pein hammer all the way.
Course, roaches are extremely rare in Sask, but the same principle applies to Grasshoppers.
