The scenario I made up was, in a period of X months a woman has intercourse Y times with a Z different men. The odds of her becoming pregnant are reasonably low.

Similarly, you live on a street with Z number of people. X times per month, you randomly point a weapon out the door & fire Y times. The odds of hitting somebody is low, yet it exists.
