Do hockey players have any of the athleticism used in other sports?
Take football, a 350lb defensive tackle must wear 40lbs of gear whilst charging through a line of five to six 400lb guys wearing 40lbs of gear in order to jump on & crush a 200lb running back wearing 30lbs of gear AND carrying a football-the object of which is to take said football & place it over a "goal" line, whereupon the team placing said football gets 6 points. It lasts all of 3 seconds, then they get a :40 second break.
Or baseball-that requires a man, wearing a large "glove", made of cowhide & about 40% bigger than his hand to attempt to throw the baseball at a very rapid pace towards another guy with an even bigger glove, who tries to catch it. In between, is another man, this one holding a large round stick-called a baseball bat-doing what physics has proven to be an improbility-if not impossibility-that is to hit the round ball with the round bat past the guy that originally threw it & his 7 other commrades in the field of play or better yet-hit the round ball with the round bat over a fence, usually placed between 375' & 450' away. It's a truly amazing thing to behold.

makes it sound pretty damned stupid. 'eh?

Ever been hit into the boards? It don't tickle.
Ever tried stopping a slap shot coming towards you at 100m/h? That don't tickle either.
Try shooting a 4" puck in the top corner of the net where there's only 5sq.inches open? Not easy.

So yes we do have the grit of your football players and the skill of your baseball players and we do all this while standing on blades 2" high by 1/8" wide.

Huh? Standing on blades 2" high by 1/8" wide-what kind of blades-razor?grass?pure titanium allloy sword?
4" puck-explain please.
net?fishing?
A 100mph "slap shot" sounds dangerous. Do they use iron coverings to prevent damage?
Hit into the boards?that also sounds unpleasant.
This Canadian phenomena-Hockey-doesn't seem to be a pleasure sport. I'd doubt it's ability to catch on in the USA, or other locales on the globe.

Fuser, you forgot some details. It's freezing. You're freezing. Your hands and feet are freezing. And the rock hard puck heading straight at you is also freezing. So is the stick you're holding. Ever clap your hands together when they're really cold? Try it some time. It hurts. A lot.

Most of the skating, slamming and fighting in hockey is done to try and stay warm.
