Got a computer here that won't start.

1. Power button works to turn computer on but don't work to turn it off.
2. No video (tried a good know vid card)
3. Hard drive makes that nice little motor sound at start up then no sounds after that.(HD works in other puter)
4. Power supply is good.
5. Memory is good.

So what do ya think? Mobo? CPU?

Pull the RAM out of the system, then power it up. Getting any beeps? If not, either dead board or CPU.

It's the mobo, I just tried the cpu in another computer and it started ok.

I pulled the ram and got no beeps.

Should be a jumper on the motherboard near either the CMOS battery or the CMOS chip itself. Also, make sure that the jumper is set to normal and not clear. The system won't bootup if it's set to clear.

Make sure you've unplugged the system before doing that. I got a nice jolt when I was resetting the CMOS on my dad's computer because stupid me left the dang thing plugged in.

The left column disappears when you enter a thread so that the thread loads post-by-post and is easier to read.
