    Opteron - your opinions

A lot of folks think that the Opteron (AMD's 64 bit CPU with backwards compantibility) is the future for AMD. A lot more think that Intel's marketing power will kill the chip, and AMD along with it. What's your take on it?

XP chip on A7M266? Read this first.

So, I got an athy XP 1700+ for Father's day, and decided to plug it into my Asus A7M266 system. First I flashed the BIOS (I was on 1003, and you must be at or above 1005). Got that done, rebooted, all seemed well. So, I swapped chips and fired it up. BSOD's and lockups all over the place...

    IE security hole...

An important read for home as well as office internet users. NO PATCH IS AVAILABLE at this time, you will have to decide on an individual basis whether or not implementing the workaround at the bottom affects sites you may visit. I would expect a Microsoft response shortly but depending...

    Might wanna check this out.

I just got this from (of all sources) a CPA. The wonders of the net, where clicking the forward button makes you an authority. That being said, it looks to me like some really good advice in these times. It's not a fun read, but it is a useful one.

    Hey, NEO!

Nice article on peer-to-peer networking on the front page. You seem to have covered all the bases nicely. You may want to mention that any computer on the network will NOT be seen in Network Neighborhood until a shared resource has been specified. That's the only troubleshooting issue I...

    Freakin' Tyan

Yep, folks, they screwed up the mobo manual for their new Thunder K7 dual AMD board. You'll need the addendum from their website to get the FSB jumpers set correctly. You guys have no idea how much time I spent trying to track that probelm down...

    Now, that was interesting...

My athy classic normally does 2-3 units over a 24 hour period, depending on the AA size. I transmit each night (usually). Last night, it had over 20 genes ready and waiting. WHOA! So, I sat there to see the length of the gene it had been working on. 12 AA's! Anyone seen one smaller?
