Happy me... FedEx came this morning with my new 1800+ (got it at newegg for 99 bucks shipped).
so the first thing I did was Unlock it :)
I have seen many "how to" articals on how to do this, so I figured I was ready to take the plunge..
I modified some of the steps, and am posting this to show how easy it really is...
OK.. first things first!
This is my new xp right out of the box... Or container as this is a OEM chip:)

First thing I did was to tape off the dots on both sides of the L1 bridges... Leaving the "pits" out in the open.

Next was to fill in the pits with white out (just paint it on).
when dry *about 2 min* peel off the tape... what you have now is a clean "filled" serface to apply the conductive paint...

Now take a pin or the tip of the xacto knife and dip it in the paint.... *Don't have any coffee before doing this*
draw a line with the paint, connecting the dots of the L1 bridges togather....
When dry *again 2 min* its ready to put in your system... this took all of 15 mins to complete..
And now I have a fully UNLOCKED cpu..

Looks a lot more easy than some of the other articles I've read

How hard would this be to undo in case it fails?

The white goop fills the slot I made with the tape... pull the tape off and you have a small stripe left where the gap in the tape was..
The Brown goop (conductive paint) is for drawing a line accross the stripe and connecting the dots ..
