Ports

I'm setting up a home network, linksys 4 port is already up & running. Things like Seti & mIRC require ports to be opened up. How do you determine what port is open/closed and which is needed? this is frustrating...

When you say Linksys 4 port, are you talking hub or router?

If it's hub, you'll need a proxy program. A really basic, but good free one is at www.analogx.com Configure your apps to go threough the IP addy of the connected machine, port 6588 (if I remember right).

Use netstat to find out what connections/ports are currently open/active.

I didn't open up any ports, and it works fine for me. I'm using an SMC router.

I didn't need to screw around with ports on my router either.
