I wouldn't be surprised. It's around christmas time here, it's only natural for him to threaten to blow shit up to get everyone's panties in a bunch.

Sounds to me like he's actually starting to show his fear of the U.S. and just wants to try to scare people into not going on with their daily lives. That is, after all, what terrorism is all about. Injecting the nation with fear.
