Microsoft Corp. today acknowledged that it shut down a Web site for an online Microsoft Developers Store last Thursday to look into a possible security vulnerability that could compromise customer information.

The alleged security problem involved a defective script used in the creation of the Web site, according to a posting by a developer at the SecurityFocus.com Web site. The script allegedly had a hole allowing access by an intruder, who could then obtain customer information from the site.

pfft... like MS is genuinely concerned for their customers' privacy

This is just a publicity stunt in my eyes... more fluff for the Windows enthusiasts to nibble on and try to find one more insignificant reason to stick with Windblows.

Think about it... Microsoft originally wanted customers to have to activate their installations of XP every time they changed 3 pieces of hardware. That's just ridiculous. They want everyone to embrace this .NET passport stuff so Microsoft can hold everyone's personal information on their server, for, they say, "easy global access" or some shit like that. Now to try to redeem themselves, they shut down a web site due to a security vulnerability. Does this sound inconsistent to anyone else?
