I'm thinking of using DSL

any dsl users out there? In a couple months I am moving to a new apartment and my new roommate brought up the idea of using dsl. There is company in Toronto that sells it for $29.99/month with an additional $5 dollar per extra i.p. The website states the dsl will come at me at 2.2mb..thats megabits, not bytes.

Is this any good? I'm using @home right now, and I sometimes get power outtages that go on for hours, brainsoft can attest to that.

I hope I don't sound like a whiney bastard to all you dial-ups out there.

I've had DSL since Feb...love it. Haven't had a bit of problems with it yet either...considering Version is the provider...

What I really need is...to talk to someone here in Toronto who's used both. I'm searching all over the freaking fucking net for some straight answers, and all it's doing is getting me more confused and frustrated. GRRR!

It's called Echo Online based in Missisuaga. I'm sure there are others in Toronto..but thats the one I'm checking out right now.

DSL for 29.99 is a great deal.

I am using Telocity DSL service which is priced @ 50.00 with a SDSL line speed of 1mb (notice bits).

I am quite satisfied with it.

I have a 1.472 mps DSL connection and it rocks! You can do 10 times as much because you don't have to pause 30 seconds at every page loading. Its almost like switching channels on a TV set. Its sooooo good that I can't stand to use dial up services at all anymore when I am away from home. I would almost rather do without a computer than to suffer dial up speeds again.

I unfortunately have to start using DSL. I have @home right now with blazing speed and I put a splitter on the cable and get all the tv channels except for movie stations for $40/month. I'm moving though and it's not available at my new place.

DSL is going to cost me $50/month and I'll have to pay for cable tv on top of it. DSL will be more than twice the cost and no increase in speed.

You probably mean cable outtages unless you live in California.

DSL is a lot more reliable in terms of stability of pings and downloads because the point at which bandwidth is shared is at the gateway, not at the neighborhood (so the bandwidth sucked by Horny Henry next door who downloads porn all the time won't be felt as strongly as if the neighborhood was using cable internet)

Personally, I would go for anything faster than dialup or ISDN.
