Thanksgiving is a good day to install Linux.

Don't try installing Mandrake 8 on it, you'll find you're not only lacking an hard-drive. :worm:

    Laptop Dual Boot

On a 333, I would go with Mandrake 7.1. There are companies who sells external adaptors for 2.5" drives which connects to the // port of a computer.

    WHY???

If you have a Rage Mobility video, maybe you should think about upgrading-it to 16mb, then you will have the benefit of an 128bit memory bus instead of the 64bit memory bus when only 8mB is installed.

    Code Red... again

An home user with win2k/winnt installed on his/her computer operating a tiny 1 webpage webserver qualifies for RedWorm.

Ok, format your c: drive. :) Irfanview is not an installed program as such. When you want to install-it, you create a directory of your choice and unzip the irview.zip file to it, then you could go in Options/Properties (a menu in IrfanView) and select the file associations you want to...

    Min specs for Linux??

If your sound card is not automatically detected, press <Ctrl> <Alt> <Backspace> to exit KDE OR GNOME (or wathever), and type sndconfig and let this program detect/configure the soundcard for you. Type startx to go back in kde or gnome or etc.

Is there a Posty in the house?

Mandrake will fit in 2gb. A full server install of Mandrake 7.1 is around 1gb.

Is there a Posty in the house?

If you partition(s) is/are fat32 then there is a good freeware to resize your partition(s). Get Partition Resizer, it runs from DOS, and you use the arrow keys to resize, just leave the empty space alone, and Mandrake will create the required partitions. You can get Partition Resizer at...

Is there a Posty in the house?

First let me mention David Hasselhoff. I'm waiting for the bullet. :) If your win2k partition is ntfs, I would think twice before letting Mandrake mess with it. You should use Powerquest Partition Magic or another utility to resize your win2k partition, or be ready for the worst.

I got my 2 mandrake 8 Linux cds from a special edition of Linux Planet magazine for 10,25$CA.

    Which one??

I agree, Mandrake 7.1 is the better choice. Hardware detection is everybit as good (except for usb support which is limited in 7.1, thought I managed to get network usb, keyboard and usb mouse working). Mandrake 8 is slow loading on a new computer, imagine on your p133, if you want to run v8...

    Weekly tweaking tips

a13antichrist tweak will even work in winnt4 and win2k. Create an c:\windows\system\oemlogo.bmp file and it will display on the property sheet. You can also make your window version (win9x, me, nt4 and win2k) by creating oeminfo.ini file and storing it in windows\system (win9x/me) winnt\system32...
